The sun, the star at the center of our solar system. Generally depicted as a golden-yellow disc radiating eight triangular rays, representing the sun&rsquo;s heat and light.

Commonly used to represent sunny, warm, or hot weather, light, heat, energy, life, outer space, astronomy, and various positive and happy (sunny) feelings.&nbsp;As such, this emoji tends to spike in popularity during the <a href="/summer">summer</a> months.

Twitter&rsquo;s design features two clouds.&nbsp;Google&rsquo;s cloud was <a href="/google/android-8.0/cloud/">previously</a>&nbsp;bluish.

Cloud

A wave of water, as breaks at the beach. Depicted as a blue wave with a foamy, white crest, curling to the right.

May be used to represent water in general, various bodies of water like oceans, and water activities, such as&nbsp;<a href="/person-swimming/">swimming</a>, <a href="/person-surfing/">surfing</a>, and <a href="/sailboat/">sailing</a>. May also&nbsp;be used to represent metaphorical waves.

Apple&rsquo;s design resembles the iconic wave in&nbsp;Japanese artist Hokusai&rsquo;s famous woodblock print, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa">The Great Wave off Kanagawa</a>&nbsp;(ca. 1830).

Water Wave

A single piece of a jigsaw puzzle, shown with two tabs and two blanks.

Usually shown as a plain green puzzle piece, though color and imagery does vary.

A classic camera, shown with its flash going off, as to illuminate a darker scene. Vendors implement the same design as <a href="/camera/">📷 Camera</a> with a burst of light, often&nbsp;resembling <a href="/collision/">💥 Collision</a>.

Commonly used for various content concerning photography as well as an icon for a picture, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Camera with Flash

A video camera, as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camcorder">camcorder</a> used to film home videos in the 1980&ndash;90s. Generally depicted as a gray or black video camera with viewfinder, control buttons, and lens pointed&nbsp;left.

Commonly used for various content concerning film and video as well as an icon for a video, as before an upload, link, or credit.

Samsung&rsquo;s is fitted with a <a href="/microphone/">microphone</a>. Google&rsquo;s design was <a href="/google/android-8.0/video-camera/">once&nbsp;blue</a> and also&nbsp;<a href="/google/android-7.0/video-camera/">previously featured</a> a flip screen.

Video Camera

A thin, artist&#39;s paintbrush, as used to paint a <a href="/framed-picture/">picture</a>. Often depicted with reddish paint on its pointed bristles. Positioned at a 45&deg; angle, its tip at the lower left.

Commonly used for various content concerning the art of painting or fine art more generally. Often paired with <a href="/artist-palette/">🎨&nbsp;Artist Palette</a>.

Lower Left Paintbrush

A crayon, as children use to color. Depicted as red on most platforms with two black stripes on its label, resembling a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayola#Crayons">Crayola crayon</a>. Positioned at a 45&deg; angle, its tip at the lower left. Commonly used for various content concerning drawing, colors, arts and crafts, and schooling.

WhatsApp&rsquo;s crayon is green while Facebook&rsquo;s is orange.

Lower Left Crayon

A silver Phillips-head or slotted-head screwdriver with a colorful handle. Most platforms show a red handle, though Apple&#39;s design has a green handle. Used to represent construction, building, carpentry, renovation, or tools in general.

Sometimes used in phrases with &#39;screw&#39; in them like&nbsp;screw you or&nbsp;have a screw loose. Can also be used in sexual contexts due to the informal meaning of &#39;screw&#39;: &quot;to have sex.&quot;

Screwdriver

A wooden ladder with four or five rungs.

Used to represent ladders or the action of climbing. Also used metaphorically to represent systems through which you can climb, for example the corporate ladder or social ladder.

Ladder

A <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moai">moai</a>, one of the famed, giant stone statues of human figures&nbsp;on Easter Island. Depicted as a gray&nbsp;stone carving of a stylized human head with a prominent brow and nose, most often facing left.

Sometimes used for various idiosyncratic purposes, such as conveying a stoic, deadpan, or silly expression. For example, this emoji is often used to represent various &quot;sigma&quot; or &quot;chad&quot; memes due to its chiselled emotionaless features.

Its official Unicode name of Moyai&nbsp;and inclusion in early Japanese emoji sets, such as from au by KDDI, suggest&nbsp;the emoji may represent the <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g1066456-d1953259-Reviews-Moyai_Statue-Shibuya_Tokyo_Tokyo_Prefecture_Kanto.html">Moyai Statue</a> near Shibuya Station in Tokyo, Japan; previous designs from <a href="/google/android-4.3/moai/">Google</a> and <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.0/moai/">Microsoft</a>&nbsp;resemble the Tokyo statue. Other Tokyo landmarks are represented in&nbsp;<a href="/tokyo-tower/">🗼&nbsp;Tokyo Tower</a> and, formerly, <a href="/shibuya/">Shibuya 109</a>.

Moyai

A cat that is also a <a href="/ninja/">ninja</a>. Used as an <a href="https://news.microsoft.com/life/ninja-cat/">unofficial&nbsp;mascot</a>&nbsp;by Microsoft, and was available&nbsp;in the Segoe Color Emoji font&nbsp;included with <a href="/microsoft/">Windows 10</a>.&nbsp;Ninja Cat was implemented&nbsp;as a proprietary <a href="/emoji-zwj-sequence/">ZWJ Sequence</a> which&nbsp;was not supported by other vendors.

Variations included&nbsp;<a href="/astro-cat/">🐱&zwj;🚀&nbsp;Astro Cat</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/hipster-cat/">🐱&zwj;👓&nbsp;Hipster Cat</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/hacker-cat/">🐱&zwj;💻&nbsp;Hacker Cat</a>,&nbsp;<a href="/dino-cat/">🐱&zwj;🐉&nbsp;Dino Cat</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="/stunt-cat/">🐱&zwj;🏍&nbsp;Stunt Cat</a>.

Ninja Cat and its variations were&nbsp;removed in Microsoft&#39;s Fluent emoji redesign, released in late&nbsp;2021.
